The initial ever worked airplane that can fly by night or day on solar energy has finished the 1st leg of its US off-road trip.

Solar Urge, piloted by Swiss traveller Bertrand Piccard, touched down at the Sky Port Global Airport in Phoenix, Arizona, at 7.30am GMT after an 18 hour flying from California.

The airplane has earlier moved from Europe to Africa, but its makers stated this was the main cross-nation aircraft.

“I am glad to be here, joyful to have arrived in Phoenix. It is a tiny bit like being in a vision,” Mr Piccard said writers after ending up, count he still had 3 sectors of his battery pack left.

Earlier the trip he said: “All the large creators of the 20th era have aimed to fly shore to coast across US.

” Hence today we are hoping to do this, but on solar energy with no gas with the main plane that is capable to fly night and day just on sun power.”

The jet, which has a thin shape and four power motors linked to a huge wingspan, went softly at a usual speed of about 30mph.

Power offered by 12,000 solar cells driven the airplane’s propellers.

The task goals to vitrine what can be expert without fossil gases, and has fixed its “final goal” as an around the Globe flying in 2015.

“What we seem for is to have a fresh landmark in this right moving times past of air travel that can invite notice of the people, of the politics sphere, of the press and display that with option powers and fresh tech for power value, we can reach hard stuffs,” Mr Bertrand said.

The airplane can fly at dark by hitting a great height of 27,000ft and then softly sliding down, applying almost no fuel through the dark until the sun pops up to begin boosting the plane’s solar cells.

Other halts in the US are prepared for Texas, Dallas, and the US capital Washington, earlier covering up in New York in first July.

Solar Impulse was flung in 2003.

The thin airplane is mainly subtle to uproar and has no room for people.
